Rampant Redbridge leave Fairlop needing 23-goal win
MGBSFL DIVISION ONE
NL GALAXY 1 REDBRIDGE JC A 5
Sam Rank described Nathan Sollosi as “the most complete Jewish footballer” after his four-goal bonanza helped Redbridge all but secure the title.
Midfield maestro Sollosi led the Galaxy defence a merry dance as Redbridge finished their league campaign unbeaten – and only a 23-goal swing for local rivals Fairlop FC in their final match against Galaxy would deny them.
Playing in his first game of the season, Nathan Sollosi opened the scoring after 15 minutes, finishing off a free-flowing move involving Dean Nyman, James Berkley, Sam Sollosi and Dean Ben Yosef. He doubled RJC’s advantage with a rocket of a shot after more good work from his brother, Sam.
RJC were in control from this point and Sollosi completed a quickfire hat-trick with the third, following a brilliant one-two with his brother.
Galaxy pulled one back with a well-struck effort from 25 yards by Zac Rose, but nothing could stop a ruthless RJC team. Further strikes from both Sollosis completed the rout.
RJC joint-manager Rank said: “The boys were asked to show their mental strength, attitude and let their abilities shine, and they achieved this and more.
“Nathan produced one of most sensational performances in Jewish football. He’s the full package, full of strength, stamina, skill and an exemplary exhibition of finishing. He’s simply top-class. With MGBFSL Division One title virtually won, this could not have been possible without the backroom set-up and structure at Redbridge Jewish Care. The efforts of both Jon Jacobs and Richard Bronzite are much appreciated. Huge thanks also go to the backroom staff of Johan Simberg, Richard Stern and Richie Cap lin .” Rank insists player commitment has been key. “The dedication the boys have put in is second to none. We have great numbers for training and matches, and the lads deserve this title so much. To win a league title being unbeaten says it all.”
Paying tribute to Fairlop, Rank went on to say: “Our noisy neighbours pushed us all the way, but today they have been silenced and the better team will win the league. We look forward to continuing the rivalry in the Premier Division.
“The end of season party has been booked and boys are now ready to celebrate in style.
“With B-team also pushing for Division Two, hopefully this will bring two titles to the RJC cabinet.”
Max Freedman and Adam Goldman registered as Fairlop FC secured promotion with a game to spare following a hard-fought win over Bayern. The home side went close through Jamie Davila and top-scorer Adam Ellis before a counter-attack by Fairlop allowed Freedman to converting from close range. Goldman added a second from a corner soon after. Outgoing Bayern player-manager Daniel Holder scored a consolation in the final minute, but it was too little, too late. “This game epitomised our season perfectly,” said Holder. “We were more than worthy of at least a point but yet again we fell short.”
Mitch Young admits FC Team’s good form has come too late following the demolition of Scrabble FC B in Division Two. A five-goal burst from striker Richard Salmon laid the foundations for FC Team’s ninth league victory, with Josh Morris and Connor Perl completing the rout. FC Team boss Young said: “It was a very comfortable performance and had it not been for the heroics of the Scrabble goalkeeper it would have been double figures. Our attacking play was precise and we all worked hard to try and give Richard the goals so he can win the MGBSFL’s Golden Boot trophy.”
