WATFORD FRIENDLY LEAGUE U15 CUP FINAL ML LIONS 2 EDMONTON RANGERS 1

FOOTBALL MACCABI London Lions Under 15s White finished the season on a high, winning the WFL Cup with a hard-fought victory against Edmonton Rangers.

Edmonton opened the scoring after ten minutes but the Lions rallied to equalise on the stroke of half-time, when Dylan Phillips sent Louis Sampson clear and he lobbed the onrushing keeper.

Lions scored the winning goal 15 minutes into the second half when a freekick from the halfway line from Jason Burns bounced off the crossbar and captain Scott Leslie headed in the rebound to spark wild scenes of celebration.

There were more chances at both ends, with MLL goalkeeper Josh Pamensky pulling off one tremendous save and there were despairing blocks and scrambles at both ends, but Lions held on. MLL boss Nigel Burns, who runs the team along with assistant-manager Joel Phillips, said: “We were extremely proud of the boys, especially as they came from behind to win. It was a fantastic way to end the season.” SQUAD: Josh Pamensky, Sam Meisel, Sam Goldberg, Ben Werter, Brandon Roach, Scott Leslie, Ben Barnett, Oli Kaye, Dylan Phillips, Jason Burns, Joe Abrahams, Josh Ruff, Joe Bregman, Louis Sampson, Jonah Rose, Louie Weissand
