Dean savours beating hosts

- BY JC REPORTER

FOOTBALL DEAN Furman reflected on “an incredible feeling” after helping South Africa reached the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations following a hard-fought win over hosts Egypt.

Furman, 31, played in the opening match against the Ivory Coast before missing the group matches against Namibia and Morocco through injury.

He returned for the match against an Egypt team featuring Liverpool striker Mo Salah, playing the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win at the Cairo International Stadium.

Furman said: “To get clapped off by the home fans is something special and that’s probably what we deserved for our performance.

“We were outstanding. We had a game-plan, we worked incredibly hard and played to the best of our capabilities to win the game.”
