Minister is ‘humbled’ by visit to cemeteries
WILL QUINCE, Minister at the Department for Work and Pensions, visited the United Synagogue’s Bushey old and new cemeteries on a fact-finding mission.
The Colchester MP’s remit at the DWP includes understanding the funeral procedures of different religions. He was shown around by the US’s head of burial, Melvyn Hartog, who explained how the Jewish system differed in that synagogue members joined a funeral expenses scheme which covered the costs of burial.
Mr Quince said the visit had been “a humbling experience.
“It’s so important to better understand funerals from the perspective of different religions.”
