Casspi back to Maccabi

- BY SIMON GRIVER

BASKETBALL NBA star Omri Casspi is returning to Israel after 10 years in America. The 31-year-old forward has reportedly agreed a three-year deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv worth £2.5 million, considerably less than the £2.388 million per season he earned in the NBA.

Casspi will captain Maccabi and has also been promised a coaching job when he retires from the game.

He began his career with Maccabi before becoming the first-ever Israeli to play in the NBA when he joined the Sacramento Kings in 2009. He subsequently played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, Memphis Grizzlies and the Golden State Warriors, with whom he won an NBA champions medal in 2017, even though he was cut from the squad before the finals play-offs.
