A racist bully

Search through the archives of the JC and you will find criticism of the four members of the US House of Representatives who have become known as “The Squad” — Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib. Their various views on Israel and BDS are misguided and dangerous. Ms Omar has made outrageous antisemitc remarks. We will continue to call them out for their behaviour. But it is just that — their words, their views and the actions — and only that for which they should be criticised. President Trump’s tweets, in which he told them to “go back” to the countries they came from was a grotesque piece of racist abuse that has no place anywhere. His supporters have tried, ludicrously, to argue that this was not racist. But any migrant group knows exactly what President Trump was up to, because exactly those words have been directed at us. As he has demonstrated repeatedly in office, President Trump is a racist bully.
