Religion and ethnicity
David Levenson and David Baddiel are both right (It’s about religion, Letters, 12 February). Jewish identity can be religious or ethnic, depending on whether one is orthodox or secular.
But there is no doubt that the left have a blind spot for Jews in their hierarchy of victimhood, with people of colour trumping whites, women trumping men and gays/lesbians/trans trumping heterosexuals. Despite our history of persecution, it is not surprising that because Jews in the west are generally white, educated and middle class they are not considered as oppressed. The left has no interest in socially mobile groups like Jews, East African Asians or West African blacks, because they undermine the very basis of their belief in perpetual victimhood. Stan Labovitch
