Haskel - Gateshead’s Trailblazing Special Education School
Ten years ago Mr Ezriel Salomon z”l was appointed MBE for Services to the Community. A visionary educator, he pioneered the provision of specialist educational support within Gateshead Kehilla’s schools and named the project Haskel.
Fast forward to 2020 and Mr Salomon’s successor, Special Ed trailblazer Rabbi Avrohom Sugarman, received notification of his MBE for Services to Education & Children with Special Educational Needs.
With the establishment of Haskel as a co-educational Special School in 2013, the herculean efforts of Director, Rabbi Sugarman and his exceptional team have ensured that the complex needs of Haskel’s pupils are fully met.
Rated Outstanding twice by Ofsted, Haskel has developed into a true Centre of Excellence for SEN. Having grown from just 3 to over 20 pupils across four departments, it now caters for a broad spectrum of disabilities including Downs Syndrome, ASD and rare genetic disorders. With exceptional attention and care, each special pupil is nurtured within a well-developed Hebrew and Secular curriculum delivered by experienced professionals.
Haskel also provides specialist SEN provision to pupils with lesser needs attending nearby schools. Through Haskel’s ‘Parachute Provision’, they benefit from its team of specialist teachers and therapists expertly led by Head Teacher Mrs Sarah Sugarman.
Haskel also supports pupils from other parts of the UK with an Education, Health and Care Plan, including North West London and Newcastle.
On Sunday and Monday Haskel is running a fundraising campaign to make up a shortfall in its operating budget and lay a solid foundation for the coming financial period.
Helping And Supporting Kids to Excel in Life is Haskel’s sole mission.
We ask you to open your hearts to help Haskel to support its special pupils to continue to thrive.
From the bottom of our hearts – and back to yours – Thank You. www.charityextra.com/haskel
