Mayor covers up for tour of Golders Green venues
SADIQ KHAN was in Golders Green on Wednesday to woo Jewish voters ahead of next month’s London mayoral contest.
As local cafés and restaurants were welcoming back outdoor diners, Mr Khan visited Pita, Carmelli Bakery and mental health charity Jami’s Head Room premises.
“He seemed really happy to see businesses that have had to be closed reopening and re-engaging with the community,” said Jami’s Vicky Rachel. “He was really excited for June when people can really get back together and start seeing each other again and socialising in the way that we were used to.”
Ms Rachel added that she had been “blown away” by Mr Khan’s level of knowledge about Jami’s activities. He seemed to “really see the importance of the work that we’re doing”.
Nira Workman of Pita said Mr Khan had discussed both the pandemic’s impact on restaurants and his admiration for Israel’s vaccination and testing efforts.
The Mayor reflected that “like all Londoners, our Jewish communities have made enormous sacrifices this year to help stop the spread of Covid-19”.
He added: “I had a fantastic time in Golders Green visiting kosher food and hospitality businesses welcoming
back patrons.
“I encourage all Londoners to support their local businesses however possible. But please do exercise these new freedoms with caution. It is only
by continuing to obey the rules and accepting the vaccine when we are offered it that we can finally return to doing the things we enjoy with the people we love.”
