Who wants identity?
Unlike Daniel Finkelstein, I am unconcerned that Jews were not included in the Race and Ethnic Minorities report (Why were Jews left out of the government report on racism? 9 April).
Whether we are an ethnic group, a religion or both, has been discussed ad nauseam since the publication of David Baddiel’s book Jews Don’t Count. But while accepting the need to remain vigilant in the face of antisemitism, do we really want to become part of the identity politics circus that is tearing British and American society apart, or get embroiled in a fatuous debate about “lived experience” versus fact?
