Herts developer supports teenage mental health charity, as demand soars

- BY JC REPORTER

Hertfordshire residential developer, Heronslea Group, has chosen to support The Oli Leigh Trust as its charity for this year. The Oli Leigh Trust is dedicated to helping reduce the rates of teenage suicide and selfharm.

The partnership with Heronslea, announced during the recent Mental Health Awareness Week, will see the award-winning developer supporting the charity in a range of initiatives over the next 12 months.

Oli took his own life on May 1, 2018. The trust was set up by Oli’s mother, Michelle, to offer support to others in the fight against teenage suicide and self-harm.

Mental health in young people has never been of greater priority. The pandemic and its lockdowns have led to a surge in calls from children and teenagers about anxiety, depression and a loss in confidence.

Jason Rishover, CEO of Heronslea Group, says: “The mental health of young people at the moment is of great concern, as they deal with the ongoing effects of Covid, so it was a natural choice for us to support this amazing charity.”

Michelle says: “The loss I feel for Oli is with me every moment of every day. I don’t want anyone else ever to feel like this, which is why I have dedicated my life to this.

“We are very grateful for the support of Heronslea Group; their generosity will be an important contribution to our ongoing work.”

Mental Health Awareness Week was a time for everyone to pause, reflect and discuss wellbeing. This year’s theme was nature. Schools encouraged young people to enjoy the outdoors, as well as discussing aspects of mental wellbeing such as worry and sleep.
