Lovely jubilee! Temple Fortune mark 50th anniversary with old boys win

-

TEMPLE FORTUNE OLD Boys marked the club’s 50th anniversary by claiming their first piece of silverware in 20 years, as they beat St John’s Wood Tigers to clinch the Maccabi Masters Football League Memorial Cup last Thursday evening.

Andrew Brummer fired the Tigers ahead early in the second half but Fortune’s super sub Robert Botkai bagged a match-winning brace to secure the club their first Old Boys competition, in doing so becoming the inaugural winners of the Jack Morgan Memorial Cup.

In the Maccabi Masters Football League, the top-two extended their lead at the top of the table to nine points. Maccabi London Brady remain top on goal difference, goals from David Sawyer and Mark Wagman seeing them beat EHRS Stonegrove 2-0, while Mark Kingston and Gideon Barnett scored in Maccabi London Lions’s 2-0 win over Hendon Harriers.

Fortune were brought back down to earth by a 5-2 defeat to Marshside. Simon Black had put the bottom side ahead, but an Adam Soller double, coupled with strikes from Paul Herszaft, Dan Forman and Richard Weisfield – his first goal in seven years – completed Marshside’s comeback.

Haroldeans are just three points away from winning the Manchester Jewish Soccer League following a 9-0 win over nearest rivals Manchester Maccabi 3rd. Marley Rubens scored four of their goals, Adam Shiffman and Nathan di Ginaccio each grabbed a brace with Jack Bookey completing the rout. Elsewhere, Jewdinese ran out 3-0 winners over Broughton Park Rangers. Shimi Moses scored twice, with Jack Isaacs claiming the third.

The Maccabi GB Junior Football League enjoyed another full programme of action at their two venues, and are anticipating announcing details of their cup competitions in the next couple of days.
