Talia has perfect ingredients for Jewish Women’s Aid funds
Brownies are my favourite — they are great and really cheap to make’
A TEENAGE Jewish Women’s Aid volunteer has produced a digital cookbook to raise money for the charity, which helps victims of domestic violence.
Talia Pavell, a 19-year-old University of Liverpool student, decided to compile Cooking for Comfort after seeing the support JWA offers.
“I’ve been volunteering at JWA for a while,” she told the JC. “Mostly what I’ve been doing has been helping to raise awareness about JWA and the issues women face. I wanted to be able to do something where I could use one of my hobbies — and I love cooking. I come up with new recipes all the time.”
The cookbook had been produced with her fellow students in mind because “we need quick and easy things to eat that taste nice. I’ve used mostly my own recipes and a few from friends.”
Recipes range from marinated duck legs to brownies. “The brownies are probably my favourite because they are great and really cheap to make.”
The cookbook costs £10 (£5 for students) and can be purchased via the JWA website. Proceeds will go towards services such as helplines, web-chat and counselling.
JWA volunteers’ co-ordinator Judy Roth was “overwhelmed by the energy and enthusiasm of the new young volunteers
group. They are incredibly passionate individuals who are using their skills and experiences to support Jewish Women’s Aid in a variety of ways. Particularly during this difficult past year, they have surpassed all our expectations in their support for our work.”
