Top five festive white wines

ERE ARE some of the most enticing white wines from Kosher Discovery to enjoy this festive season, plus suggestions of food to accompany them.

BARTENURA PROSECCO BRUT DOC (ITALY) - £16.99

A dry and easy-drinking Prosecco at a great price point — perfect for celebrating. This wine pairs well with a variety of appetisers, including savoury cheeses and fruits and works well in sparkling wine-based cocktails. Serve ice-cold.

It also goes beautifully with a dish of honey roasted almonds — which would make a great home-made Rosh Hashanah gift, alongside the prosecco.

Simply coat a few handfuls of almonds in runny honey and sprinkle with a little salt.

Roast at 180°C (160°C fan) for about 15 minutes on an oven tray lined with baking paper and leave to cool before eating.

Or you could use this prosecco to make honeyed cocktails to bring some more sweetness to your celebrations by stirring together 30ml lemon juice, 15ml runny honey and 15ml water in a cocktail shaker or lidded jar.

Add ice and shake briskly until the outside of the shaker or jar is really cold — about 15 seconds.

Pour the mixture into champagne flutes and top up with ice-cold prosecco.

GOOSE BAY SAUVIGNON BLANC 2019 (NEW ZEALAND) - £21.99

This classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is refreshing, herbaceous and dry with high acidity.

Pair it with herby sauces and salty cheese.

It goes really well with a simple caprese salad (tomato, mozzarella and basil dressed in balsamic drizzle and pesto) as the wine complements the acidity and cleanses the palate from the creamy mozzarella.

DOMAINE DE PANQUEILAINE SANCERRE 2019 (FRANCE) £29.99

Another wine that’s high in acidity and with a crisp flavour and aroma profile characteristic of the region — citrus and slate — and is a lovely example of a Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc at a relatively friendly price point. It’s always good to pair wines with foods from the region in which they are produced, so this would make a perfect partner for earthy chevre and crunchy green apple on top of simple toasted crostini.

YARDEN CHARDONNAY 2018 (ISRAEL) - £19.99

Grown exclusively in the Golan Heights, this is a delightful example of a walletfriendly Chardonnay which delivers on flavour and balance. It would make a delightful wine to cut through the creamy and buttery flavours on a cheeseboard or to accompany a (parev) pesto chicken or a cold chicken pasta salad.

CASTEL BLANC DU CASTEL 2017 (ISRAEL) - £44.99

This is a special one. Estate bottled at the beautiful winery in Yad Hashmona, west of Jerusalem, Castel’s rich, buttery, golden Chardonnay with full flavour and lingering finish makes a special addition to any celebration.

Serve it with a rich, creamy mushroom risotto — which you could make parev with vegan Parmesan and vegan butter.
