‘Lily’s promise’ is fulfilled
A BOOK by survivor Lily Ebert and her great-grandson Dov Forman was launched with an online event staged by the Holocaust Educational Trust.
More than 250 people tuned in to hear the authors discuss Lily’s Promise: How I Survived Auschwitz and Found the Strength to Live with TV personality Robert Rinder.
The Prince of Wales contributed a foreword to the book, which Mr Forman said fulfilled a duty to pass on the survivor’s messages of hope and tolerance. “My great-grandma wasn’t meant to be here; she wasn’t meant to survive. The typical story of the Holocaust isn’t told because the typical story involves the killing of entire families, communities and villages.”
HET chief executive Karen Pollock said it would be “one of the last testimonies to be written by an Auschwitz survivor.
“Lily promised herself that if she survived, she would go on to tell the world what really happened during Europe’s darkest period in history. And she has done just that.”
