Hundreds receive US food support for the festival

THE UNITED Synagogue distributed Rosh Hashanah food parcels to hundreds of people, reporting that many families are still struggling with the impact of the pandemic.

It has been supporting well over 100 households on a weekly basis since Pesach 2020 with essentials such as bread, milk, cheese, fruit and vegetables, tinned goods, tea, coffee, pasta and cereal, as well as toiletries. It has spent more than £200,000 on the service over the course of the pandemic.

Through its network of synagogues, the US has also sent out honey cakes to some 2,100 households. US Chesed head Michelle Minsky said that despite most Covid restrictions having been dropped, “many of our members are still struggling financially. It is vital for the United Synagogue to connect people with their community and help them feel included, even if they can’t come to shul this year.”
