Assailed on all sides

Whatever our politics, we should sympathise with Sabrina Miller’s feelings about being assailed on Twitter from both right and left (Twitter is an awful place for centrists like me, 15 October).

It is disgusting how some people viciously personalise honest differences of opinion. “Fake” or “self-hating” Jew are particularly ignorant terms.

My favourite analogy about the thinking behind such attacks is the way that, to a person standing on a steep slope, level ground in front of them can appear as an opposite slope.
