Oakwood stand tall as Hampstead enjoy stroll in the park

Double glory: Oakwood’s Sam Hatton scored two goals against Brady FC

OAKWOOD TOWN MADE it five wins in six games as they moved into the top half of the Maccabi GB Southern Football League Division Two table with a 4-1 win at bottom side Brady FC.

Sam Hatton scored two of their goals, with Harry Nelson and Jason Hamburger also on target.

Manager Mikey Cohen said: “We had a great game. Having turned up with only 11 men, we stood strong and despite falling behind, fought hard to grind out the victory, ensuring we end the year with four straight wins!”

Hapoel Hampstead recorded one of the shocks of the day as they inflicted a 6-2 win over runaway league leaders Geez Park Rangers. Matti Brooks scored four of their goals, with Jordan Conn and Sam Prais also netting. Hampstead’s Marcus Foux said: “It was an absolutely unbelievab­le win, I’m incredibly proud to do what no other team has done, but full credit to Geez for setting such a high standard.”

London Athletico took advantage to close the gap on the leaders to nine points, but they left it late to earn a 2-1 win at Redbridge Jewish Care White, Sam Good and Max Walker — direct from a corner — scoring in the last nine minutes. Manager Adam Nahum said: “It was a very important win to close the gap at the top.”

Real Madreidel maintained their title challenge as Zak Summerfiel­d’s strike earned them a 1-0 win at Camden City.

HMH moved to within eight points of the leaders in the Premier Division after they came away from Maccabi London FC with an emphatic 9-2 victory. Oscar Wagner produced the best individual performanc­e of the day, scoring six of their goals, Adam Abadi chipped in with two, with George Goldberg also on target. HMH’s Avi Goldberg said: “It was a consummate footballin­g performanc­e and one which sees us reduce the gap at the top of the table.”

Oakwood are a place below them in third after two own goals helped them to a 5-1 win over Club de Chigwell. Louie Fisher, John Levy and Maxim Green also found the back of the net. Mill Hill Dons moved up to fourth spot in Division One as a result of their 8-1 win over Straw Hat Pirates. Zach Cohen and Isaac Virchis both scored twice, with Scott Hircombe, Joseph Reece, Adam Morrow and Scott Waissel also all on target. Temple Fortune A moved up to fifth spot as goals from Conor Brand, Michael Goldberg and Sammy Samuelson saw them to a 3-0 win over Scrabble.

There were also two ties played in the first round of the Cyril Anekstein Cup.

Hendon United booked their passage into the next round with a 4-0 win over Brook Farm Rovers. Simon Peterman Chaim Korman Dovi Fehler and Shneur Levene all scored, with manager David Garbacz saying: “It was a good, comfortabl­e win against a well-organised team. We created numerous chances but had to make do with four. I can’t remember the last time we lost in this cup — we intend to go all the way this year as well, all being well.” Faithfold White also scored four times as they beat Hampstead Ducks 4-3, in a seven-goal thriller.
