Writing your will can cost you nothing —

- BY DANIEL BURGER

When you look at the average age of a legator – a person who leaves a legacy in their will — the vast majority are over the age of 60. This stands to reason. As life expectancy increases, so too will the age of those leaving a legacy to charity. Yet this skews how we think about the whole subject of wills and legacies.

While a legacy is ‘realised’ only at the end of one’s life, it is important to remember that legators were young once too!

In many ways, a will is even more significant and vital to those at the start of life’s journey. A couple with young children need a will more than, perhaps, those with no dependants of their own. This is why Magen David Adom UK has partnered with Farewill.

Farewill is an online will writing service. In just 15 minutes, you can have a will drawn up and benefit from its professional support as the largest will writer in the UK. This is a service open to anyone of any age and while there is absolutely no obligation to include a gift in your will to Magen David Adom UK in order to use this service, you will make a lifesaving difference if you do.

Magen David Adom is Israel’s only national medical emergency and blood service. It is responsible for these healthcare services for all of Israel’s citizens, irrespective of race, religion or ethnicity. Remarkably, it provides this service as a non-governmental agency, dependent on funds from donors across the world to carry out its lifesaving work.

Legacies to Magen David Adom are directly responsible for saving the lives of thousands of people in Israel and around the world.

The ever-increasing number of people who remember Magen David Adom in their will ensures that the medics, paramedics and 24,000 volunteers (Israel’s largest volunteer organisation) have the tools they need to save more lives. Remembering Magen David Adom in your will is a life-saving way to ensure that the values that are important to you are perpetuated long into the future.

If you have already written a will, please do consider adding a legacy to Magen David Adom UK. But why not also remind your children or grandchildren that they should have a will too? That way, your legacy of philanthropy will be passed on to future generations.

Making or rewriting a will is one of the most postponed jobs on anyone’s to do list. Whether it is waiting to have children, waiting for the children to get married or waiting for retirement, there are so many reasons to put off for tomorrow what really should be done today.

Thankfully, the cost involved no longer needs to be a reason to procrastinate. With MDA UK and Farewill, leaving a legacy could not be easier.

A will is even more vital to those at the start of life’s journey’
