Angel delight as Riley joins their fundraiser
COUNTDOWN PRESENTER Rachel Riley had some nice words to say about Jewish Care after speaking at a lunch of its Essex area committee, Local Angels.
Ms Riley discussed her life and times with committee chair Gayle Klein before an audience of 160.
She said afterwards that it had been “a pleasure to hear what a difference the support and care that Jewish Care staff provide makes to the quality of life for so many older people and their families”.
The lunch at the Waltham Abbey Marriott Hotel was Local Angels’ 12th and most successful, raising nearly £40,000 for the charity’s activities in the Essex and surrounding area.
As part of the appeal, guests heard how Jewish Care had supported six members of Helen Zack’s family across three generations.
Among them was Mrs Zack’s father, Leslie Sherman, after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and dementia.
When he eventually moved into the charity’s Vi and John Rubens home in Redbridge, “I knew that my dad was going to be and looked after in a heimishe atmosphere. For me, Jewish Care really is like one big family.”
There were also reports on the support supplied to the local community during the pandemic, including more than 80,000 meals-on-wheels and some 80,000 befriending calls.
