Good spell for Nancy Reuben
NANCY REUBEN Primary in Hendon took the honours with winners in both categories of this year’s Modern Hebrew Spelling Bee.
The final of the event, run by PaJeS and Routes into Languages East, was contested by 31 students from years 5 and 6 from seven Jewish primaries.
Benjamin Willman won the category for non-Ivrit speakers, while David McWhir was the top spller from the Ivrit speakers.
Participants had to learn 120 words beforehand and in the competition spell and translate as many words as they could.
Organisers said this year’s standard was the highest since the launch of the contest in 2017.
