Free-scoring Chaim keeps Hendon’s cup dreams alive

- BY ANDREW SHERWOOD

A SUPERB individual performance from Chaim Korman saw him score four goals as Hendon United cruised into the semi-finals of the David Wolff Premier Cup.

Taking on Brook Farm Rovers, Korman’s quadruple helped the visitors cruise to a 5-1 win. Joe Cohen netted Hendon’s fifth. Manager Russ Corin said: “Chaim put in a masterful performance, full of quality and clinical finishing. But overall it was a solid team display all round in tough, windy conditions, with centre-backs Ed Brafman and Avi Mocton looking strong. We were in control for most of the game and never looked troubled at the back.”

Simon Zeffert scored Rovers’ consolation, Their player-manager Dan Cohen said: “It was a fairly even first half, but then we let some goals in and dropped our level in the second half.”

Brady FC booked their place into the last four of the Peter Morrison Trophy with three goals in the opening half hour setting them on their way to a 3-1 win over Camden City. Jake Aspis, Ben Myers and Noah Raphael were on target for Brady.

North London Raiders boosted their chances of avoiding the Maccabi GB Southern Football League Premier Division trapdoor as they came away from Stoke Salmon with a 2-1 win, the points seeing them leapfrog their opponents in the table in what could prove to be the proverbial six-pointer. Second-half strikes from Mike Field and Darra Abdolrazaghi steered the visitors to the points after they fell behind in the first half. Raiders manager Tal Cohen said: “It was a very close contest with two struggling teams at the bottom of the table. A resurgence after the break saw us produce a much more positive attacking display. Having gone in front, we had our backs to the walls but were able to hold out, surviving several attacks and possible penalty shouts, though we did hit the bar in the dying moments.” Harry Landy had headed Salmon in front.

Division One provided the game of the day as Redbridge Jewish Care Purple won a seven-goal thriller at Real Madreidel, coming away with a 4-3 win. Scott Oldstein scored twice, with Daniel Bean and Adam Goldman also on target. The victory sees them put some daylight between themselves and the bottom two teams in the table.

The other game played saw the bottom two, Temple Fortune and Boca Chillers, play out a 2-2 draw.

The result gave Fortune their first point of the season – and they earned it the hard way, coming back from 2-0 down, skipper Adam Speck and leading scorer Michael Goldberg getting on the scoresheet. Division Two frontrunners Redbridge Jewish Care White saw their lead at the top of the table cut after they played out a 1-1 draw in the Essex derby against third-placed Club de Chigwell. Samuel Cahill’s strike wasn’t enough to see the leaders to the points.

The biggest benefactors of that result was HMH B, whose season continues to go from strength to strength. Raff Collins bagged a hattrick, with Dylan Berger and Max Sherick netting their other two. Manager Nick Berger said: “Another week another three points, this young side are now two points behind league leaders after a fantastic undefeated recent run of games.”

Millbrook Park Calcio are up into fifth spot thanks to a 2-0 win at Hampstead Ducks. Jordan Aspis and Jamie Tiller scored twice in two first half minutes to secure the points.

Oakwood bowed out of the London Sunday Trophy after they were beaten 3-1 by Club Internacional de Fútbol Manresa 24.

Maccabi London Lions increased their lead at the top of the Maccabi Masters Football League table to five points after they thrashed Hendon Hawks 9-0.

Gideon Barnett scored four times, Paul Doctors helped himself to a hattrick, with Michael Abraham netting the other two.

St John’s wood Tigers consolidated their position in third spot with a 3-1 victory over Brady, courtesy of an Andrew Brummer hat-trick, his second consecutive treble. Gavin Sherman netted for Brady.

Meanwhile, goals from Marc Schneiderman, Micky Nathan and David Simmons earned Glenthorne the points in their 3-1 win over EHRS, for whom Stefan Simons replied.

London Lions’ First XI are up into eighth place in the Spartans South Midlands Football League Premier Division table after they edged a thrilling match against Biggleswade United, winning 4-3. Felix Shalom and Austin Lipman both scored twice, with one of Shalom’s strikes coming direct from a corner.

London Lions’ Development suffered another defeat in the Premier Division of the Herts Senior County League, falling to a 3-0 defeat at Everett Rovers, a result that leaves them in sixth place in the table.
