Build your confidence in the job search
AFREE ONLINE workshop designed to help those looking for work build up their confidence will take place on Wednesday, 3 April. Hosted by Work Avenue, the community’s leading employment and business support organisation, the course is open to all.
It seeks to help people who have had a career or business setback to rebuild their confidence, feel empowered and achieve more.
Work Avenue CEO Debbie Lebrett says: “Looking for work or running a business requires you to present the best version of yourself.
“But if you’ve experienced change, been through a trauma or, like most of us, are not naturally confident, this can be really challenging.
“This course will provide advice and support to help you gain confidence and move to a positive mindset along with the ability to achieve your goals and ultimately to find work.”
The half-day workshop covers strategies for coping with change and focusing on success. It will also help participants gain an awareness of their mindset and how to shift the balance of power.
Previous participants have used the skills they have learnt to help with job interviews, networking, settling into a new role and business negotiations.
The course is also supported by other Work Avenue services from its team of employment experts, including free one-to-one advice on all aspects of the job search.
Zoe, who found herself out of work with no income for several months, turned to Work Avenue and says its support gave her the confidence boost to get a new job. She says: “Work Avenue gave me an enormous lift, just when I needed it. Everyone, from the receptionist to the course leaders and advisers right up to the CEO, couldn’t do enough to help me. They gave me back my self-esteem and belief in the workplace.”
Another client, Joshua, turned to the charity after he lost his business — and his confidence — in the recent economic downturn.
Now in a good job, and also developing a new business, he said: “For me, Work Avenue provided some really valuable guidance at a time when I needed it most.
“They helped to increase my selfesteem, learn new skills and, crucially, get back on my feet financially.”
