Jolt an outfit to life with a killer touch

-

AWELL-CHOSEN “KILLER” accessory – scarf, belt or necklace – can give an S/ S24 twist to all the clothes we already own at a time when many of us are more likely to go shopping in our wardrobe rather than harming the planet by discarding perfectly good clothing and replacing it with more of (almost) the same.

As shown by the rise of the blanket scarf in recent winters, an oversized scarf can instantly elevate every outfit. Add new-season colour with a long, oversized scarf in cotton or linen (White Stuff, Zara and H&M), or a dash of cowgirl chic with a neckerchief (Zara and H&M) or, for a vintage vibe, drape an oversized silky square (Saint Laurent, Pucci, Toteme or Arket).

A smart leather belt – with or without an envy-me logo –always adds polish to tailored trousers, jeans or a denim skirt, but a waistcinching corset belt that creates a new silhouette is a game-changer. Alaia has ravishingly pretty (and insanely pricey) laser-cut ones, but they’re available more affordably at The Kooples, All Saints and H&M. A wide, Seventies-inspired belt slung round the hips can create a new aesthetic for skirts, dresses and long tops as well as adding an on-trend cowboy vibe. Find them at Urban Outfitters, Free People and Cos.

One of the season’s jewellery directions is for smaller, more delicate pieces. These look good on Insta, but very little can jolt an outfit to life as well as a highvoltage statement necklace. Find these at Anthropologie, Cos, Zara, H&M and Chunkydory for a bold (but not too bold) necklace of oversized silver-tone circles.
