A VIEW FROM THE GALLOWGATE
I READ an article a short while ago concerning our proposed takeover, which pointed out the irony of our club complaining about the lack of transparency of the Premier League.
In one sense the comment was correct, in the rare meetings between club and supporters a glass of water at the table is replaced by a pinch of salt.
We have a media department which appears only to exist to ban journalists writing factual accounts.
On the other hand, however, the club could argue they have been refreshingly open, they exist merely for the sake of it and have no burning desire to win anything and would put that in neon signs outside the ground if they could.
Which links to the news last week about the NUFC Trust, who launched a campaign to garner enough money to hopefully buy a one per cent stake from new owners and have an obligated say on club matters.
However that turns out, it is though, as our American friends would say “a no-brainer.”
Slightly unfortunate to launch in the current circumstances but it deserves support.
My pledge went in last week simply because it’s a good idea, hopefully it reaches the target and sends a message to any potential buyers that we want change and desperately want to be part of it.
As part of that process we went to Burnley on Sunday, which in the great scheme of things was as much an exercise in determining our sale price as it was getting vital points.
To be consistent in praising as well as moaning, well done to all involved - particularly after going a goal down.
Unfortunately I missed the game as I was driving around the Team Valley like Pac-man from the video game taking a family member for her vaccination.
If nothing else this is a psychological as well as positional boost for the hard games to come.
The bigger picture remains though, like quite a few clubs we aren’t going to be splashing out in the summer, and as usual it’ll a case of replacing the better players unwilling to go through this again rather than supplementing them.
For the moment though, our first win since the last lockdown, like finally exiting Team Valley before running out of petrol, must be savoured to the full.
