Highwaymen’s Cup journey is over

-

MORPETH Town saw their hopes of reaching the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history ended by a clinical performance from York City.

England C striker Kurt Willoughby was the man to do the damage as the Minstermen forward plundered his way to a hat-trick to put his side in control at Craik Park.

Ryan Donaldson gave Craig Lynch’s side some hope of mounting a comeback but the National League North side saw out time despite the Highwaymen wasting a number of chances to set their nerves on edge. Hebburn Town suffered a first defeat in five games as Northern Premier League East Division rivals Brighouse Town collected a 3-1 win on South Tyneside.

The visitors took a three-goal lead into half-time thanks to a brace from Laurence Sorhaindo and a Zeph Thomas strike.

The Hornets improved in the second-half but a late goal from Tom Potter proved to be the sum total of their efforts.

Paul Robinson scored twice to help Ashington move into the top five of the Ebac Northern League Division One table with a 4-2 home win against Sunderland RCA.

Robinson’s brace and a goal apiece from Dean Briggs and Ryan McGorrigan put the Colliers in complete control and they collected the win despite Simon Jakab and Mark Davison giving the visitors some hope of mounting a comeback.

Callum Larmouth and Regan Paterson got the goals as West Allotment Celtic secured their second win of the season against Billingham Town. The Allotment duo scored either side of an equaliser from Connor Dunlavey as their side battled to a 2-1 win.
