Brute behind bars after biting and punching scared girlfriend

ACOUNTY Durham man savagely bit and punched his teenage girlfriend during an attack that left her fearing for her life.

Kieron Davis turned violent after he and his girlfriend had been drinking alcohol on October 15, and left her with multiple injuries.

The 19-year-old attacked her with his fists and armed himself with a “large kitchen knife” as she fled into a bathroom and locked herself in.

And when police turned up to arrest him, Davis fought back and attempted to flee.

Davis, of South Burns, Chester-leStreet, appeared at Durham Crown Court via link from HMP Hull to be sentenced for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and obstructing a PC.

Sam Faulks, prosecuting, said the couple had not been together long when they ended up living together in Blackhall.

During the relationship, Davis became “verbally abusive” towards her, the court heard.

Mr Faulks said on October 15, the couple had been eating pizza and drinking together when the defendant’s “mood changed”.

The court heard that as Davis became more and more angry, the girl went upstairs to her bedroom.

But Davis “burst in” and asked, ‘what the f*** are you doing up here?’ and “turned violent”.

Mr Faulks said the behaviour of Davis was “frenzied”, as well as having “lulls”.

Davis then went on to punch the girl “repeatedly” in the face and “kicked” at the bathroom door where she sought refuge.

He then “forced open” the bathroom

door while holding a “large kitchen knife”.

The court was told Davis was “biting her arms when she was defending herself” and “dunked” her in the bath.

The girl’s shoulder was also bitten and Davis “stabbed” at a windowsill where her phone was.

Mr Faulks said that the girl “begged” Davis not to damage her phone as she had pictures of her deceased father on it, but he replied, ‘You’ll be joining him’.

The attack only stopped when police knocked at the door and Davis told the girl to put on clothes so her injuries would be hidden.

But when the officers attempted to enter, Davis “sprinted away” into the kitchen and shut the door before trying to escape.

There was then a “physical altercation” between Davis and an officer before he was eventually arrested.

Mr Faulks said that the girl sustained many injuries, including bite marks, swelling, bruises and bleeding.

In a statement, the girl said the attack left her “terrified” and feared she was “going to die”.

Martin Scarborough, defending, said Davis “accepts the matter clearly crosses the custody threshold” and was “completely unacceptable”.

He said Davis, who had no previous convictions, was “immature” for his age and had

“issues with drugs and alcohol”.

Mr Scarborough added that Davis has had “time to reflect on his behaviour” and had “issues with his temper and emotions”. The court heard that the victim “wants to possibly rekindle the relationship”. Sentencing Davis, Judge James Adkin, the Recorder of Durham, said the attack was “sustained” and that he bit the girl “all over her body”.

He said Davis left the girl with a “disgraceful catalogue of injuries”.

Davis was jailed for 16 months.
