Be sensible about tips
IN response to Coun Lambert’s letter regarding fly tipping, I suggest he look no further than his own party for the problems this has caused communities.
I live in Wideopen, a two-minute drive from the Brunswick tip. I have used this tip for many years until Newcastle City Council decided a few years ago that residents in the surrounding areas of Wideopen, Seaton Burn and Dudley to name a few, could no longer use it.
Instead, we have to travel to sites such as North Shields as we belong to North Tyneside. Not only that but these local authority tips now insist that you have to make an appointment and there are rules regarding which days you can attend the tip.
Well, I’m sorry Coun Lambert but if you really expect people to travel over six miles to get rid of their rubbish when there’s a tip on their doorstep then you are asking for trouble.
Has it ever occurred to the council that people do work and that their hours of employment may not coincide with the ‘every other day’ or appointment rules they now insist on in order to get rid of your rubbish at the tip?
Yes, fly tipping is a blight on the countryside which costs a fortune to clean up but come on, Coun Lambert, be sensible in this crusade to get rid of fly tipping and allow people to use the local authority tip nearest to them instead of expecting that old toilet to travel over six miles in order to get rid of it legally.
