Protesters did no harm at all

-

IT WAS with complete disbelief that I read the headline ‘Damage to Collingwood Monument’ by Surfers against Sewage protesters.

As I happened to be swimming at Cullercoats on the morning of the protest march, I saw the arrival on the beach of the very small, wellbehaved group of youngsters who did not look like a bunch of vandals!

Their odious crime seems to have been a few chalk drawings and words written by the children, the most ‘offensive’ being “no poo”! The organisers removed chalk graffiti with mop and bucket so there was no lasting damage.

Compare this with the scandalous amounts of waste and chemicals deposited in the North Sea by various water companies and I’m sure Lord Collingwood would have approved of their actions.
