Millers’ boss eager to sign Grigg over the summer

-

ROTHERHAM United boss Paul Warne has admitted he’d like to sign Will Grigg when his Sunderland contract ends this summer.

The Black Cats striker has endured a dismal few years on Wearside and has struggled for goals since making the switch from Wigan Athletic.

Grigg was seen as quite the coup when he arrived at the Stadium of Light despite his big fee, but the move was a disaster.

The Northern Ireland international has scored just five times since arriving in 2019.

A loan spell to MK Dons last season saw Grigg score eight times in 20 games, a decent record in League One.

There had been murmurs in the summer that Grigg would return to Stadium:MK but Warne swooped to take the 30-year-old to Rotherham instead.

Grigg has added another promotion to his CV and Warne has admitted he wants to sign him this summer.

He said: “I liked all my loan signings. I loved Griggy, Jordi Osei-Tutu and Rarmani Edmonds-Green.

He was injured and we only had Jordi match-fit right at the end and Griggy was flying until he got injured.

“I would like to keep all three if I possibly could.

“In fairness to Jordi, he is an Arsenal player and it is about what they want to do.

“Especially with Rarmani, he is a very ‘Rotherhamesque’ player but Huddersfield might have him in their plans next year.

“They wanted him to play games and he has played and has done really well.

“Although Huddersfield might go up and might not think he is suitable for them in the Premier LeagueI don’t know.

“What I do know with Jordi and Rarmani is they are the ‘last point’ in the window because they will all come in and train and I will see who impresses me.

“As the window gets closer I may think: ‘he is not going to play as much as I thought he would, I will let him out on loan.”
