Contract talks no big deal - Moore
DARREN Moore claims ongoing contract negotiations at Hillsborough are not going to distract the club ahead of their play-off double-header against Sunderland.
Massimo Luongo, Sam Hutchinson and Saido Berahino are among those out of contract this summer and the trio have played an important part in the Owls’ 2021/22 campaign.
Luongo and Hutchinson have both suffered from injuries at different points during the season but have played at least half of Wednesday’s 46 matches this season. Former Baggies star Berahino has rebuilt his career at Hillsborough, scoring seven goals in his last 13 games for the Owls.
Moore revealed contract talks were already under way but were still ongoing.
While he may have one eye on the future, the Wednesday boss refused to look beyond the play-off double header against the Wearsiders.
He said: “Things are ongoing with the contracts.
“We’ve opened talks with one or two of the lads but it’s ongoing.
“It doesn’t take one day or a couple of weeks, it’s an ongoing process which will probably go on beyond the end of the season and into the earlier summer weeks.
“From our perspective we’re just focusing on the games, all that stuff is being taken care of. We’re coming together and we’re focusing on the game. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves and focus on the ‘what ifs’, this and that.
“We havet games to focus on. It’s come to the end of the season, there are a lot of ifs and buts, but we’re all in a position where we’ve come through different hurdles to get to this position.”
