Cake shop cites Covid decline as it calls it a day

-

A FAMILY-RUN cake shop and cafe in County Durham has closed permanently due to a “huge downfall” in footfall.

It’s All About The Cake, which opened in 2018, announced the closure of its venue in The Riverwalk.

The owners said another shop in Peterlee and a bakery in Wingate would not be affected by the closure.

In a statement, the owners thanked customers for all their support over the years as well as the staff who were “dedicated right up until the end”.

They also said they had not taken the decision “lightly” and said it was down to a drop in footfall post-Covid.

The statement read: “It is with a very heavy heart we announce the closure of our Durham store with immediate effect. We have not taken this decision lightly but... our position within the city centre has become untenable.

“We would like to thank all those who have supported us over the last four years: the customers who we have loved getting to know and, most importantly, the staff who been so dedicated.

“Our other shop in Peterlee and bakery in Wingate are completely unaffected by this decision and we hope you all still support us in the other aspects of our business.”

Customers took to social media to express their sadness about the closure with one saying: “So sorry to hear this. Absolutely loved coming in when we lived there. You were always so welcoming and those cakes .... ”

Another said: “We’ve visited the shop every week without fail.”
