CHOOSING THE HOME

Autumna’s Debbie Harris lists four key issues that should guide your care home choice for you or a loved one.

1. LOCATION: As a general rule, find a care home nearest the person who is most likely to visit.

2. TYPE OF CARE:

Is it simply residential or do you need nursing care, or support for dementia? Will that change?

3. FUNDING: Your choice of home will depend on whether you are self-funding the care or your council is paying, possibly with top-up fees from you.

4. TIMING: When do you need the care home? If you need a place now, that may determine your decision.
