Winning starts to season are still intact

HETTON Lyons and Felling maintained their 100% winning starts to the Premier Divisioin season.

At Lilywhite Terrace, Burnmoor batted first against the Lyons.

Paul Craig contibuted a solid innings of 67 but the Moor only made 145 all out as Robert Talbot claimed 4-18.

However, the Lyons did not have it their own way as Craig Stephenson claimed 3-18 to set up an exciting finish and the home side finished on 151-8 to win by just two wickets.

Felling also won for the fourth time on the trot.

Opener James Cracknell smashed an excellent 117 from 118 balls, which included 11 fours and two sixes, at home to Tynemouth.

Edward Hurst (47) and Tyler Easton (35) added useful runs to take them up to 256-7.

For the visitors, Esam Rahman posted a useful 55 and David Mansfield 44 but they were all out for 192 – Travis Norris with 3-49.

Eppleton had lost their opening four games and struggled at home to Benwell Hill – collapsing to 118 all out thanks to a brilliant 6-25 off eight overs from Rory Hanley.

Opener Kyle Coetzer then amassed 64 runs from 64 balls to steer the Hill to 121-3 and a comfortabl­e seven-wicket win to maintain third place.

Burnopfiel­d racked up the runs at home to Newcastle.

Opener John Oswell hit a scintillat­ing 194 from 132 balls, which included 23 fours and nine sixes, in a final total of 355-7.

Newcastle then collapsed to 79-5 – Joe Anderson rallied them with 45 but they were all out for 235.

Chester-le-Street won for the first time this season.

Quentin Hughes top-scored with 60 as they totalled 239-8 at home to Sunderland.

The Ashbrooke outfit’s Micky Allan then struck 87 in the run chase but the Wearsiders were eventually dismissed for 198 – Amaan Ul Haq taking 4-43 and Sebastian Hughes-Pinan 3-42.

Whitburn started fairly well at South North but Ollie McGee claimed figures of 4-26 to help limit the away side to 122 all out.

South North then reached 124-2 in reply for an easy eight-wicket win, Rob Peyton hitting 50 not out and McGee 45 not out in a 104-run third-wicket stand.
