Ridley mess a waste of cash

-

I RECENTLY had occasion to visit Ridley Place on foot. What a mess!

I used to park here months ago using my disabled badge before the council, who seemingly have no spare money, decided to close the street and pedestrianise it, using large block-style paving.

The last time I visited the work had started and, although I was one of those to disagree with the destruction of a favoured disabled parking spot, I could not believe my eyes. Any progress made has been ripped up and the whole area is a mess.

The staff in the shops and outlets visited say the job has been stopstart for months, and at 9am there were three men leaning on a barrier and no one working. On my return to area 25 minutes later, no work was ongoing and three men were still at the barrier.

I had my drive block-paved in a weekend and looking at progress I shudder to think how much this unessential work is costing. Perhaps the councillor responsible could comment with some information on how much this is all costing.

All I have spoken to while visiting the area are disgusted with the waste of money, the length of time and lack of progress at this muchloved space which has been visited by many, many disabled people in

years past with its nearby access to our main shopping area.

Whose idea was it in the first place or is that a secret?
