Family firm is sowing the seeds of success

ANORTH East family business has landed a contract with a supermarket chain which will see its product sold in almost 150 stores throughout the UK.

Grow Sow Simple, based on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate in North Tyneside, has secured a deal to supply its biodegradable and plastic-free seed pod boxes to Asda stores nationwide.

The boxes contain seeds which can be planted direct into the soil or plant pots.

The pod protects the seeds as they begin to germinate before breaking down naturally in the soil, leaving no waste. The seeds are now available in 52 of the Asda’s megastores, including the Metrocentre shop.

They come in a range of themes, including herb garden, allotment mix, pizza topper, chilli mix and cocktail botanicals.

Each box consists of four varieties of seeds and is aimed at beginner gardeners.

The firm was founded in 2015 by managing-director Dan Robson and the company has recently moved to larger operational facilities to accommodate its growing order book.

The products are made from 100% recycled industrial waste, stripped of any bleaches, acids or other chemicals.

Mr Robson said: “We are delighted to have secured this contract with one of the nation’s favourite and most recognised supermarkets. This will significantly help to drive brand recognition for our SeedCell® range and ultimately drive sales for our business, which will lead to job creation in the local area.

“Our ambition has always been to make gardening accessible for anyone – no matter what their ability is – and Seedcell allows people to grow their own vegetables and herbs in the simplest and most environmentally friendly way possible.

“It is great to see a retail giant like Asda making products such as SeedCell® accessible to its customers, many of whom are becoming increasingly more eco-conscious and adopting more sustainable ways of living.”

Mr Robson runs the business with his brother Joe and is also exporting to a range of clients right across the globe.
