POOLE PIRATES NEWCASTLE DIAMONDS

FORMER Newcastle duo Danny King and Steve Worrall led the way as Poole Pirates recorded a thumping 26-point win over the Diamonds.

The pair scored 26 points on their own on a disappointing night for the visitors, who actually led after the first heat only to see the Pirates cruise to victory after that.

The defeat leaves the Diamonds rock bottom of the table – with just one win from seven fixtures so far – at the end of a night where only Kyle Howarth got into double figures (12+1).

The guest rider served in place of long-term injury victim Bradley Wilson-Dean but found support in short supply.

He and Matthew Wethers got the Diamonds off to a great start, taking a 4-2 win from the first heat against ex-Newcastle star King (13+1).

But the hosts hit straight back with Drew Kemp fending off hard-chasing Lee Complin to level the scores. From there, Poole took control.

Worrall (13+2) roared away to victory followed by Ben Cook in heat three to five the hosts an 11-7 lead, which became an eightpoint advantage just one heat later.

King and Zach Cook recorded another maximum as the Pirates continued to plunder points ruthlessly, the score now 25-11 after just six heats.

Newcastle did, however, pull off an amazing 5-1 of their own in the next race thanks to James Wright and Howarth, cutting the deficit to just 10 points.

Worrall and Ben Cook immediately cut off any hopes of a comeback with yet another Poole maximum restoring the 14-point home lead.

Newcastle pair Howarth and Weathers excelled in heat 11 to pull the score back a bit but Poole were still comfortable at 38-28.

Reserve Drew Kemp was the next man to combine well with Worrall on their way to the latest 5-1 in heat 12, making the scoreline 43-29 and ending the meet as a contest.

Another Pirates maximum soon followed before heat 14, which required a re-run when Clegg was deemed for moving at the tapes and warned.

It didn’t affect the hosts as Ben Cook and Kemp took another five points for the hosts, with more of the same in the final heat of the night.
