Hotel unveils first phase of renovation plans

-

THE iconic Honest Lawyer Hotel in Durham is unveiling the first phase in its radical renovation, with grand plans for phase two about to commence.

Just five minutes’ drive from Durham city centre, the Honest Lawyer is undergoing a refurbishment.

The transformation of the building facade is almost complete, offering a taste of what guests can look forward to from the remainder of the renovation.

Phase two, due to be completed in November 2022, will see a total remodel of the hotel’s public spaces in addition to six superior hotel rooms featuring brand new interiors and bathrooms. 2023 will see the completion of the remaining 46 bedrooms, enabling the hotel to fulfil demand and offer a higher level of customer service. STR Hotels have also partnered with renowned leisure design house Bilateral to create a concept that pays respect to The Honest Lawyer’s past, while infusing a renewed energy into the hotel.

The overall theme will see decadent vintage furnishings accented with lush, modern fabrics and eclectic playful twists.

The public common areas will be marked by an entirely new arrival experience with the lobby and restaurant also set for a complete makeover. The outdoor patio will be overhauled with the addition of a large tipi terrace area.

There will also be a new function room with a dedicated bar, offering the hotel the opportunity to hold multiple functions.

The hallmarks of the renovation will include eye-catching, bespoke artwork and creative takes on The Honest Lawyer’s acclaimed history.

The project is being spearheaded by Jason Sanderson of STR Hotels, whose post-Covid investment plan will start at The Honest Lawyer and is part of a £2m group-wide upgrade investment plan.

Director of STR Hotels Ltd, Jason Sanderson, said: “Customer experience is at the heart of everything we do and the exciting refurbishment plans for the hotel will complement our excellent food reputation.”

While renovations are under way, guests will still be able to enjoy the hotel with disruption and noise kept to a bare minimum while experts in the field work on the revamp.

It will also remain open for future reservations.
