Are Toon fans being played?

WHEN Newcastle United were taken over by the Saudi PIF, there was much talk that it was a cynical move aimed only at sportswashing the actions of the Saudi regime.

So, it was with interest that I read last week of plans for the new Newcastle United away strip to bear an uncanny resemblance to the colours of Saudi Arabia.

This has been seen by some as evidence that the takeover by the Saudi PIF is indeed nothing more than sportswashing. It does make you think doesn’t it? It does make you wonder what the real motivations of the Saudi PIF are. Are they just using Newcastle United and its supporters?

What certainly seems to be true is that any Newcastle supporter thinking that they have now got their club back, is seriously misguided. A football club really should be run for football reasons only.
