One injured in crash

ONE person was taken to hospital following a collision on the A184 in Sunderland.

The A184 (Newcastle Road) in Southwick was closed due a crash between A1018 Shields Road and Blue House Lane which happened at about 4pm on Wednesday.

Emergency workers from Northumbria Police, North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance Service were in attendance at the scene.

Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Newcastle Road in Sunderland, shortly after 4.30pm this [Wednesday] afternoon.

“We dispatched two ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic and a clinical team leader, and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service.”

He added: “One patient was transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for further treatment.”
