■ Transporti­ng company Harlyn Solutions has recruited two new team members following a number of new contract wins.

Zak Warburton, who has joined the Blyth firm as project coordinato­r, has a background in shipping agency roles and his role will support project management, the project vessels and port calls, organising logistics and delivering client’s projects.

Tom Tinant, a second-year marine technology with offshore engineerin­g student at Newcastle University, will initially be joining on a student placement.

Managing director Hamish Adamson said: “This is a fantastic sector in which to build a career.

“Because we’re a small team, there are lots of opportunit­ies for new starters like Zak to get involved with all of our projects. We’re looking forward to Tom spending the summer with us, getting practical experience in the field.

“Student placements like this are even more important following the impact that the pandemic on the practical side of engineerin­g courses. Our aim is to get him out on projects for the duration of his time with us.”

■ Barratt Developmen­ts North East has appointed Steven Ball to the board as the region’s new sales director.

Mr Ball began his career in corporate estate agency management and after 10 years, in 2014, he stepped into the housebuild­ing industry, joining Barratt Developmen­ts North East as a sales manager. He moved on to become sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey in 2018, but has returned to Barratt Developmen­ts to take up the new role.

He said “I’m thrilled to be taking on the role as Sales Director at Barratt Developmen­ts North East.

“Having already worked for the leading housebuild­er for four years, I’m excited to once again be a part of the team and join the talented board of directors. It’s a privilege to work for the nation’s leading housebuild­er in the North East division and I’m keen to help shape long-term strategies and deliver quality housing to residents and communitie­s in the North East.”

■ Black and White Engineerin­g (B&W) has made several key promotions.

The company has appointed Scott Wilson as UK and Europe regional head of sustainabi­lity, while Charlie Bater, Karl Snowball and Grant Dalgleish have been promoted from associate directors to technical directors.

Principal engineers Jonathan Robinson-Hoare and Craig England also step up to become associate directors.

Steven Horn, UK and Europe director at B&W Engineerin­g, said: “Bolstered by our team’s expertise, knowledge and technical strength including our increased sustainabi­lity offering, we have experience­d rapid global growth in the last two years. Our recent series of promotions are well deserved and each of them have played a key role in our organic growth and more than doubling our revenue.”

■ A media buying agency has made a hat-trick of appointmen­ts to drive its expansion.

Sunderland-based Smart Media has appointed Andrew Armstrong, Louise Milbourne and Rosie Adams to strengthen its in-house team.

Mr Armstrong, has held roles at global media agencies including Publicis, Group M and Dentsu Aegis and joins as media director.

Ms Milbourne has been appointed as head of media operations, and will have both a strategic and client facing role across the business. Ms Adams joins from media giant Bauer as an account director, to focus on building the company’s client base.

Managing director Mark Clancey said: “Our new appointmen­ts bring a wealth of experience and we’re delighted to add them to the team.

“This will put us in the best possible position to cement the growth we have achieved and strengthen further the operationa­l side of our business.”

■ Savills has appointed Greg Davison as a director in its Newcastle developmen­t team.

Mr Davison, a former partner and head of office agency at Cushman & Wakefield’s Newcastle office, has joined the firm to specialise in mixed use developmen­t consultanc­y and office leasing across the North East and Yorkshire. He has 20 years’ experience in the North East commercial property industry and has worked on projects including the HMRC North East Regional Hub, Newcastle Helix and Milburngat­e in Durham.

Savills Newcastle has also appointed Emma Young who has joined the property management team as a graduate surveyor, Oliver Bartles-Smith who has joined as a graduate surveyor working across the investment and industrial teams, and Joey Dunn who has joined the rural management team.

Mr Davidson said: “It’s an incredibly exciting time to be joining Savills and I am looking forward to building on the success that the team has had to date. The challenges presented by the global pandemic has led to a rethink of the way we approach mixed use developmen­t which presents some real opportunit­ies across the North East and Yorkshire and I am looking forward to getting stuck in to this new challenge.”

■ Newcastle based TotalLab, a leader in image analysis software for the biotech, pharmaceut­ical and chemical sectors, has made two new appointmen­ts to lead growth in the US and worldwide.

Dr Steven Dodd has been appointed as head of sales and business developmen­t and Dave Miller has been appointed as head of technical services.

Their appointmen­ts signal TotalLab’s ambition to explore new markets and expand further into the regulated pharma industry.

Dr Dodd said: “It’s a really exciting time to be joining the company, we’ve recently rebranded and launched a brand-new website which will go some way to support our plans of raising awareness of our software on an internatio­nal scale.”

Mr Miller added: “I’m delighted to join the TotalLab team. I’ve worked with some of the team in previous roles, so I know them well and know that it’s a great company to work for. I look forward to building on the great framework of its software and applying my expertise to enhance image analysis research with the latest advances in technology.”
