Lanzarote was just what the doctor ordered
KATE STEWART, FROM KILLINGWORTH, NEWCASTLE, DISCOVERED HER DREAM BEACH HOLIDAY WITH TUI AFTER HUBBY’S ALL-CLEAR
OUR trip couldn’t have been more last-minute! My husband, Paul, was really unwell last year, but when the doctor finally gave him the all-clear, we zoomed off on holiday. It was well overdue after everything we’d been through.
But what a lovely way to celebrate the good news: a week-long trip to the TUI BLUE Flamingo Beach in Lanzarote. It was our first time there and we were so impressed – the glorious September sun certainly helped.
We had a relaxing journey with TUI’s charter from Newcastle. It was an easy afternoon flight and we prebooked a transfer with TUI. It’s the first time I’ve done that, but I’d highly recommend it. Super smooth. It felt like it was all about ‘us.’
Our eight-year-old daughter, Sophie, is the priority on our holidays, so we need somewhere super family-friendly. I must admit, we like the all-inclusive element, too. Not much spending money required.
The hotel was spot on. We had our own cute little bungalow, with a private terrace and kitchen. It felt safe and private - a big plus for us. We love the social element of TUI resorts, but the option to have a quiet night in is great. Then there’s the location – it’s literally on the beach. Walk out of your door and there it is. Combine that with TUI’s shops and restaurants and you really don’t need much more. My husband did go for a wander, but me and my little girl barely ventured off.
I remember we had a really special moment together on the beach, though. Just making sandcastles and messing about. It’s the little things, isn’t it? We spent a lot of time with our new lilos around the pool, too –

or pools, I should say! There are about four of them.
The food! Honestly, the selection was massive. I had an amazing paella one night. Sophie loved the self-service – her face when she saw the ice cream selection… If you think about what we paid for the trip, the value was amazing.
You really get your money’s worth with the entertainment, too. The kids competed in all sorts of games and the entertainers were real pros.
We stuck around for the tribute acts most nights, but the night we went back early sticks out the most. I grabbed a bottle of white wine from the bar – I love that you can do that – and my husband and I enjoyed a moment together on the balcony.
It really was the perfect way to celebrate our good news.
