New look for restaurant as it marks its birthday

THE fine dining restaurant at Baltic in Gateshead is set to hit new heights with a new look and a new menu as it celebrates its 15th birthday.

SIX Rooftop, which opened in 2009 on the top level of the art gallery with panoramic views of the riverside, has undergone a refurbishment, which has added a dramatic new sense of style and it will be unveiling the results to diners when it reopens on Tuesday, which marks its big anniversary.

Having been closed all of January for the re-design, its new look sees modern aesthetics complement the building’s history, with interior designer Julie Chambers having created a darker colour scheme for an inviting and intimate atmosphere.

Its opening at 6pm on February 13 - the day before Valentine’s Day comes in perfect time for those planning a celebratory meal out.

Julie, whose design work takes in restaurants, bars and commercial outlets, has remodelled the dining room while focusing upon making the most of its stunning Quayside views.

The new decor features a palette of greens and greys, with wood and

marble-style furnishings and a wooden floor, all aimed at providing an ideal setting for a relaxed dining experience.

A new Chef ’s Table is able to accommodate intimate gatherings of up to six people, who will be able to keep an eye on the action in the kitchen, and it says a revamped menu will draw upon the knowledge and expertise gained throughout the restaurant’s 15-year history. Other upgrades include a cosy viewing lounge, for an extra casual dining option, and spacious bar area - a focal point - which will feature reeded glass, stainless steel, marble and wood. There also will be better acoustics and lighting.

Its tasting menu selection, headed up by food director Greg Lambert, is out to celebrate the best of British cuisine with locally-sourced seasonal produce and also a focus upon plant-based options.

Diners will be able to enjoy lunch for £45 or dinner for £54 while a lounge menu will offer various ‘plates’ priced mostly under £10.

SIX operations director Roy Ng is excited says its birthday reopening will find it offering an elevated experience in both food and drinks.
