Minteh bags a brace in rout of rivals

-

NEWCASTLE United loanee Yankuba Minteh took his total to 10 goals for the season with a brace in Feyenoord’s stunning 6-0 victory over arch-rivals Ajax yesterday.

The winger, signed from Odense last summer and loaned immediately to the Dutch side, was on form in a sensational performance from Arne Slot’s side as Ajax were humiliated in the Eredivisie showdown.

It is only the third time Ajax have ever been beaten by a six-goal scoreline in their history, and a record score in a Dutch ‘De Klassieker’.

After a goalless first half-hour, Feyenoord took the lead through Igor Paixao, set up by Minteh, before the winger got his first of the day, sweeping home inside the box after a flowing move down the right-hand side.

His second was even better. Receiving the ball just inside the box, he cut inside and curled a delightful left-foot shot into the net.

That goal made it 4-0 after David Hancko had scored just before the break. Quinten Timber added a fifth before Paixao wrapped up the win with his second and Feyenoord’s sixth on a day to remember for the Rotterdam side.

Minteh is set to ‘return’ to Newcastle this summer, with Eddie Howe keen to have a good look a the 19-year-old before deciding on the next steps of his development. Slot is already resigned to losing the Gambia forward next season, although would be open to renewing the loan deal if United decide that is the best option.

Minteh has picked up Champions League experience while at Feyenoord, scoring in a 2-1 defeat to Celtic, and has now scored six goals in his last seven Eredivisie appearances.
