Final casting call issued for summer spectacular

-

A final opportunity will be available today for those interested in taking part in summer spectacular Kynren.

Organisers of the award-winning outdoor show, which will be back in County Durham over eight weeks starting in July, are to host a final open call today for volunteers to join its cast and crew and there are options for all ages and abilities, including children.

Those interested will be given a behind-the-scenes tour of Kynren’s vast Bishop Auckland site.

As the UK’s biggest live action show, Kynren – An Epic Tale of England, produced by 11Arches, is an enormous undertaking which each year involves around 1,000 volunteers, who have ranged in age from five to 88. They are called ‘archers’ and they take on a variety of roles in the performance.

Kynren, which plays out against the backdrop of Auckland Castle, rattles through 2,000 years of history with a mix of dramatic action scenes so those interested in taking to the stage will receive professional training in the likes of stage combat, choreography and pyrotechnics, depending upon their roles.

Anna Warnecke, Kynren’s chief executive officer, said: “Whilst we’re fortunate to welcome so many people back each season, we’re always on the look-out for new volunteers.”

Those interested in being a part of its 2024 season can just turn up at its site at Flatts Farm, Bishop Auckland, for the open call which will last from 6.30pm until 8pm today.

Kynren’s Saturday night run starts on July 27 and lasts until September 14. Anyone interested in taking part this year but unable to make it today is invited to email volunteer@11arches.org
