POINT TO POINT

- PETER BURGON

THE penultimate fixture of the season takes place tomorrow at Charm Park near Scarborough, where the Derwent card has attracted 86 entries and starts at 2pm.

Peacocks Secret was in command a long way from home when beating Back Bar by five lengths at Fakenham three weeks ago and Dale Peters’ mount is fancied to follow up in the Conditions Race from the useful Envious Editor, who might need the run after being off the track for 11 months.

The 2m4f Maiden Race for four and five-year-olds looks a tricky puzzle to solve with a quartet of debutants up against horses who have still to deliver the goods.

On paper, the pick of the newcomers appear to be Cabin Crew and Codetalker.

Destination Mahler makes most appeal in the Restricted Race. Appreciating the step up in trip, he led throughout the final circuit at Garthorpe last time before coasting home six lengths ahead of Karismatik and has the scope to go in again.

The main danger comes from Jack Teal’s promising mare Fire in Her Eyes, who was only beaten three-quarters-of-a-length by proven stayer Duke Account on her last visit to Charm Park in early March.

Camdonian and Go Go Geronimo head the 15 entries for the Mixed Open Race with slight preference for the former, who has won six of eight Points since joining Jack Teal’s Malton yard in January 2023 and goes well here.

The ultra-consistent Go Go Geronimo has found only one too good on all three starts this term and is sure to be in the mix again.

Northumbrian raider Hermann Clermont has the perfect opportunity to get back on the winning trail in the Novice Riders Conditions Race.

At his best on a sound surface, Will Ramsay’s charge lost nothing in defeat when only beaten a length by Batman For Ever at Overton a fortnight ago and faces nothing of that class here, with lower rated Young Rich the only one of the other seven entries to get his head in front this term.

The 18 entries for the concluding Maiden Conditions Race have as many letters as numbers in their form figures and have clocked up more than 60 outings between them without success.

It may pay to take a chance with Whats The Solution who would have been placed at Corbridge had he not unseated at the last after the saddle slipped.
