A&P Tyne launches apprentice campaign

-

SHIPBUILDER A&P Tyne has launched its 2024 apprentice recruitment campaign, creating 13 jobs.

The repair and rebuild specialist, which operates a yard at Hebburn on the River Tyne, is recruiting to a range of roles suitable for everyone from those just leaving education to those looking to change career.

The firm says it is also hiring into established roles across all areas of the business. There are 13 apprenticeship positions to be filled including welders, platers, an electrical fitter and pipe fitter as well as a health and safety apprentice.

A&P, which is part of the wider global marine business APCL Group, says the apprentices will have the opportunity to earn while they learn, receiving specific training, experience and recognised qualifications to kickstart their career.

Washington-based engineering training provider Seta is supporting A&P Tyne with the full apprenticeship recruitment process, and will be working in partnership with the company to deliver the apprenticeship programmes.

Successful applicants will study and train with Seta in their first year, where they will be prepared for working life at A&P Tyne, which operates the largest commercial dry dock on the East Coast of England.

That will be followed up with support from Seta’s team throughout the four-year programme where apprentices will work on what A&P says are some of the most important marine engineering projects in the UK.

Ian Douglas, managing director of A&P North East, said: “I am delighted to welcome applications for our 2024 apprenticeship programme. We are committed to investing in our apprenticeship facilities here in the North East and have launched a brand new apprentice training centre in preparation for this year’s cohort.”
