Carly Paoli

Singing My Dreams

The Mail on Sunday - Event - - CLASSICAL - David Mellor

Abiah Music, out now

What a talent. Mystic Mellor predicts we are going to hear more of Carly Paoli. A lot more. She effortlessly straddles two countries – Britain and Italy – and two musical genres, classical and popular.

Born in Mansfield years ago, Paoli was trained at the Royal Northern College of Music. She’s had a classical vocal coach since the age of nine, and the operatic quality of her voice shines through.

This album is uplifting, with first-class symphonic arrangements of crossover music such as the duet fashioned from the slow movement of Rodrigo’s Concierto De Aranjuez (here with José Carreras); Memory Of You, using the main theme from James Horner’s Legends Of The Fall; and my favourite, Robert Emery’s exultant arrangement from Cinema Paradiso for soprano and symphony orchestra.

Recently the winner of one of Italy’s most prestigious arts awards, the Premio Barocco, Paoli is on her way!
