Ed Sheeran can’t have hoped for much more than the ca­reer his old friend Michael Rosenberg en­joys in his Pas­sen­ger guise. But Sheeran rewrote the rules while Rosenberg just ploughs on do­ing very nicely. His voice is some­times too cute, but his ar­range­ments are of­ten brisk and warm.

She com­posed an opera last year, but the Mer­cury nom­i­nee hasn’t pro­duced an al­bum since 2013. That hia­tus has done her good, be­cause Hunter as a whole po­si­tions her as a gen­uine heir to the po­etic fear­less­ness of Patti Smith and the prowl­ing the­atrics of Nick Cave.

Let’s Go Sun­shine Out Fri

Ar­riv­ing in the wake of The Lib­ertines, The Kooks’ ami­able, slightly flimsy guitar-pop made them stars. Let’s Go Sun­shine is the con­fi­dent work of a band who are get­ting bet­ter. Songs like Frac­tured And Dazed have a mus­cle and el­e­gance that would once have been be­yond them.
