TIME FOR A NEW SEASON TWEAK
In anticipation of autumn, I thought it timely to talk trends. Yet, as I’m reliably informed by Mac’s director of make-up artistry Terry Barber, this season we’ll have ‘directions, not trends’, meaning less ‘full-on looks’ and more ‘tweaks and details’ in the form of soft, feminine washes of colour. Try sweeping Mac Extra Dimension Blush in Into The Pink (above right, £23) on eyelids to emulate the Altuzarra A/W 17 show. Or how about pressing blush pink shade Spirit Of Fall from the Trend Forecast Fall 17 Lip Palette (£36, both maccosmetics.co.uk) high on to cheeks, as per Roksanda’s catwalk look? The move towards stained terracotta lips with a blurry edge at the Topshop Unique show – created using the Lip Paint from Topshop Lip Kit in Crazy Beautiful (£18, topshop.com) – is one I will definitely be making. Overall, the objective is to look gently ‘filtered’ rather than ‘airbrushed’, says Barber. In practice, this means we’ll all be able to embrace a more relaxed beauty aesthetic in the season ahead. Hear, hear
to that.
